Send from another address (aliases)

Email accounts

An alias lets you send email from another address you own, such as a team or work address, from inside one of your accounts. Set the address up with your email provider first: Newton can't create aliases on its own. Gmail aliases come in from Gmail; for Outlook and IMAP accounts you add them by hand on desktop or the web.

Steps

Desktop

  1. Open Settings: press ⌘, on Mac, or Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux.
  2. Go to Accounts, select the account and click Manage Aliases.
  3. For a Gmail account, click Sync next to Sync from Server to bring in the addresses set up in Gmail.
  4. To add an address by hand, click New Aliases, enter a Name and Email, and click Save Aliases.

To rename or remove an alias, click its ••• menu and choose Edit or Delete.

iPhone, iPad & Android

  1. Open the menu and tap the Settings gear at the bottom.
  2. Tap Accounts, tap the account, then tap Aliases.
  3. For a Gmail account, tap Sync to bring in the addresses set up in Gmail.
  4. To change the name an alias sends under, tap its name and type a new one. It saves when you leave the field.

You can't add or delete aliases in the mobile app. Use desktop or the web.

Web

  1. Sign in at account.newtonhq.com and open Accounts.
  2. Select the account and click Manage Aliases.
  3. For a Gmail account, click Sync to bring in the addresses set up in Gmail.
  4. To add an address by hand, enter a Name and Email at the bottom of the list and click Create. Click Delete to remove one.

To send from an alias, click the sender address at the top of the compose window on desktop, or tap it on mobile to open Send from, and choose the alias.

Good to know

  • When you reply to an email that was sent to one of your aliases, Newton sends the reply from that alias automatically.
  • Newton doesn't check addresses you add by hand, so make sure your provider lets you send from them.
  • Gmail aliases don't update by themselves. Tap or click Sync again after you change them in Gmail.
  • Signatures are set per account, not per alias.
