Add a Gmail or Outlook account

Email accounts

To add a Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook, Hotmail or Microsoft 365 account, you sign in with Google or Microsoft in your browser. You type your password on Google's or Microsoft's own sign-in page, not in Newton.

Steps

Desktop

  1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner and choose Add Account. You can also open Settings › Accounts and click + below the account list.
  2. Choose Google for Gmail and Google Workspace, Outlook for a personal Outlook or Hotmail account, or Microsoft 365 for a work or school Microsoft account.
  3. Click Proceed in Browser.
  4. Sign in to the account in your browser and allow access.
  5. When the page says the account is connected, click Open Newton.

Newton adds the account and starts downloading your mail.

iPhone, iPad & Android

  1. Open the menu and tap the Settings gear at the bottom.
  2. Tap Accounts, then Add account.
  3. Tap Gmail for Gmail and Google Workspace, or Outlook for Outlook, Hotmail and Microsoft 365.
  4. Sign in to the account and allow access. Newton opens again when you're done.

Setting up Newton for the first time? Tap the Google, Outlook or Microsoft 365 tile instead.

Web

  1. Sign in at account.newtonhq.com and open Accounts.
  2. Click Add account.
  3. Click Connect Gmail or Connect Outlook.
  4. Sign in to the account and allow access. You're brought back to Accounts.

Good to know

  • In the mobile app, the Free plan includes two accounts. Adding a third there needs Newton Pro.
  • If you created your Newton account with Google or Microsoft, that mailbox was added at the same time. Signing in to an existing Newton account with Google or Microsoft doesn't add a mailbox.
  • You add an account once. It shows up on every device where you sign in to Newton, without signing in to Google or Microsoft again.
  • Work and school accounts are controlled by your organization. If one won't connect, your IT admin may need to allow Newton.
