Filters sort new mail for you as it arrives: star it, archive it, move it to a folder, forward it and more. They work with Gmail and Outlook accounts, and you manage them in the desktop app or on the web.
Steps
Desktop
Open Settings: press ⌘, on Mac, or Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux.
Go to the Accounts tab and select a Gmail or Outlook account.
Under Automation, click Manage Filters.
Click Create Filter.
Under When an email matches, fill in From, To or Subject, or switch on Has attachment.
Under Do this, choose what should happen, such as Skip inbox (archive), Move to folder or Apply label.
Click Create Filter.
To change or delete a filter, click ••• next to it and choose Edit or Delete.
Fill in the form under When an email matches and Do this.
Click Create Filter (for Outlook, Create Rule).
To change or delete one, hover over it and click the pencil or the trash icon.
Good to know
Filters are saved as Gmail filters or Outlook rules. They run on Google's or Microsoft's side, even when Newton is closed, and filters you made in Gmail or Outlook show up here too.
Filters act on new mail as it arrives, not on mail you already have.
Search query is for Gmail only, and Stop processing more filters is for Outlook only. For Outlook, Star it marks the email as important.
