Remove Newton's access to Google or Microsoft

Account & privacy

Removing an email account from Newton ends Newton's access to it. For Gmail, that's all you need to do. For Outlook and Microsoft 365, also remove Newton in your Microsoft account, because Microsoft doesn't let apps cancel their own access.

Steps

Desktop

  1. Open Settings: press ⌘, on Mac, or Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux.
  2. Go to the Accounts tab and select the account.
  3. Click the trash icon.
  4. In Remove account?, click Remove.

iPhone, iPad & Android

  1. Open the menu and tap the Settings gear at the bottom.
  2. Tap Accounts, then the account.
  3. Tap Remove account.
  4. Tap Remove to confirm.

Web

  1. Sign in at account.newtonhq.com and open Accounts.
  2. Select the account.
  3. Click Remove Account and confirm.

For an Outlook or Microsoft 365 account, also open the settings in your Microsoft account that list apps with access to it, and remove Newton.

Good to know

  • Removing an account removes it from all your devices, even though the phone asks "Remove … from this device?". Its scheduled emails are cancelled.
  • Newton deletes its copy of the access straight away. An Outlook access token a device already has can keep working for up to about an hour.
  • If the same Gmail address is connected to another Newton account, Google access stays on for that other account.
  • On a phone you can't remove your only email account. Log out instead.
