Last week, our eyes drew to an article all about the struggles lawyers face with day-to-day communication with clients.
The article written by Associated Mind’s Keith Lee outlines exactly how lawyers can be struggling to get a client to email with other methods of communication breaking through and making the trail a lot harder to channel when getting the job done.
This is a common problem for many lawyers in the US and worldwide as they start their practice in the digital era.
Lawyers are eager to centralise their communication via email. Just take a look at this Twitter poll on the ideal communication channels for clients:
Clearly email plays a big role with lawyers.
So what’s the problem with texting and other methods of communication?
Very similar to therapists, doctors and medical assistants, lawyers have a duty of security to their clients.
Respecting this demands responsibility and ownership.
Of course, there are a host of services that provide one-to-one SMS channels that help process messages. But many lawyers aren’t aware of this and making them use this alongside email to communicate with clients can be stressful, reducing quality of work and so much more.
Text-messaging can be less secure than email when it comes to backing up the information and tracking the trial of communication.
As Keith explains in his article, email has a host of benefits:
Just some of the many elements that makes email very useful for lawyers when starting a communication channel with their clients.
Email also skips out many of the nuances that text-messaging or phone can bring, like reduced emotion and a formal methodology behind it.
For lawyers, email communication is perfect, especially for the dozens or even hundreds of clients they are managing on a daily basis.
Lawyers need a real focus on security and one line of communication with clients, so email right now, suits all of their needs and wants.
If you’re a lawyer and curious to hear more about how communication can affect your relationship with a client, check out Keith’s piece and story regarding Twitter public messaging, a very scary picture of the state of communication for lawyers.
