I’m totally lost when asked to rate something on a scale of 10. For me, the best way to rate something is on a scale of 5. Like how I rate things on Google. Play Store even gives me a hint for every star, so that I’m clear. Same with Uber. I like how they give hints while rating and also ask me what went wrong when I give a rating less than 5 stars.

1 star if I hated something, 2 if I didn’t like it, 3 if it’s just OK, 4 if I liked it and 5 if I loved it.

Zomato has a rating scale of 5 but with a .5 increment. Again confusing. I’m pretty sure there is something technical about this, but as a user, it doesn't make much sense for me. Maybe Zomato wants me to consider every aspect of a restaurant, and they thought a .5 incremented scale may help. It would have helped, if they gave me a hint, like Google Play Store, saying what it means to give a restaurant a 3.5 rating.

Maybe Zomato should make me rate for more granular aspects of the restaurant, e.g. Food, Service & Ambience, and then based on those scores automatically calculate an overall rating.
Yes, for the user, this is not as easy as just giving one rating. To solve this, they can just make the rating for food mandatory, as that’s the most important aspect. The user can optionally choose to rate for more aspects, which will affect the overall score. This will not only make the system better, but is also helpful for the user. One need not go through every review and photograph to find out more information about the restaurant.
What say, Zomato?
