8 Tips To Avoiding Working on Your Vacation

Summer is upon us and it’s time to enjoy the sun.

The idea of taking themselves away from a busy work day might be impossible. Deadlines, projects, and objectives all have to be met putting a lot of mental and physical pressure on people.

We’ve compiled a few actionable tips to avoiding work whilst you are on vacation.

1. Buffer up your social media

Over the course of our year, we’ll get a lot of social media messages, ones that take us away from our work and relaxation. Try using Buffer to plot some in advance and avoid any social media distractions.

2. Distraction-free notes

Book ideas, bucket list, plans for next Summer? You’ll going to need to note them down somewhere. Try something like Evernote to clip your notes inside an organised notebook whilst you are on vacation ready to review when you get home. Even clip articles too using the Evernote Web Clipper.

3. Auto-responder or OOO

Informative auto-responders can save you huge amounts of time, especially on vacation. An automated message with everything you need to say and directions to other people will reduce the chance of people badgering via phone and via email too.

4. Try Lo-Fi Music

One of the most relaxing genres of musics I’ve recently discovered is Lo-Fi. I didn’t realise I enjoyed this as much as I did. Try this YouTube radio station and kick back and relax: listen here!

5. Long runs

Not something many people consider when they are holiday, but its becoming more and more popular as people detox from the messy world of work. Try going for a 10–20-minute run to clear your thoughts.

6. Set Slack Status

Slack is used by many people around the world to communicate with your team, but as many people know it’s a world of noise sometimes. Using the new Slack status feature to let your colleagues know that you are on vacation will pay dividends over your break.

7. Facebook outage

Keep off Facebook. Chances are your colleagues might be there posting about work and you’ll appreciate the outage from all the work stresses. Post at the end of each week, if that’s what you’d like to do.

8. Try the language out!

Conversing the lingo with the locals means a great way to escape your work situations. It’ll also give you an insight into the mindset of local people, about their work and life balance, which is normally healthier. Try FlashAcademy to pick-up a few key phrases.

If you found any of these useful, feel free to recommend this!
